Cinco De Mayo

The Harry Ransom Center presents the Poetry on the Plaza event "Cinco de Mayo." Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexican heritage and culture and commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Readers include John Moran González and Patricia García, professors in the Department of English, and writer and poet Liliana Valenzuela. The event also includes a musical performance by Charanga Cakewalk. Time: Noon-1 p.m. Location: Harry Ransom Center Admission: Free
